How AI upscaling is different from resizing

A normal resize (bilinear or bicubic) simply spreads the existing pixels over a bigger area, which is why enlarged images look soft or jagged. AI super-resolution is trained on millions of image pairs to predict what the extra detail should be — sharpening edges, cleaning up textures and reducing the blocky artifacts of low resolution. The result is an enlargement that actually looks higher quality, not just bigger. It works best on photos and illustrations that are genuinely small or slightly soft; it cannot invent detail that was never captured, so extremely blurry or tiny images have limits.

Running AI in your browser

This tool uses TensorFlow.js to run the model on your own device (using your GPU via WebGL when available, otherwise the CPU) — your server needs no GPU because nothing runs on the server. The first time you use it, your browser downloads the model (a few megabytes) and caches it, so later runs start faster. Memory use scales with the OUTPUT size (input × factor²), so a very large image at 4× can exceed what a browser tab can hold. If a scale is blocked or you hit a memory limit, step down to 2× or 3×, or start from a smaller image.

Private by design — nothing is uploaded

Unlike most online converters that send your files to a remote server, this tool does all of its work directly inside your web browser. Your image, video or audio never leaves your device, there is nothing to delete afterwards, and there is no account to create. That makes it faster (no upload or download round-trip on top of the processing) and far safer for anything personal or client-confidential. When you close the tab, everything is gone.
